Ryan Seng and Michael Meeks --- Bead on a Hoop Animation
After uncompressing the zip file (see the link at the bottom of this page), make sure that your current directory in Matlab is set to the directory containing gammavphi2.m.
- Run the program by typing gammavphi2 at the Matlab prompt. This will create an output file called outputII.txt. This is the file Povray will refer to when reading off values for the position of the bead.
- Next open the file hoop2.pov and hoop2.ini in Povray. The following directions apply for the Windows version for Povray. From the Render menu, select Edit Settings/Render. Click the Browse button, then locate and select the file hoop2.ini. Now you can render hoop2.pov. This will produce 2000 bitmap images. You can change this number by adjusting the clock and frame variables in hoop2.ini. You must also make a corresponding adjustment to the tspan variable in the Matlab file Gammavphi2.m, then run the file again to produce the needed output file.
- We used Quicktime Pro to produce our movie. Open Quicktime Pro, then from the File menu, select Open Image Sequence to combine these images into a movie. Now from the File menu, use the Export submenu item to export the movie, creating an Mp4 movie. (MUCH smaller)
To open the animation using Quicktime, simply click the image above, then the movie will open Quicktime in a new window. Press the Play button to start the animation.
Enjoy!
